Online it says hiking Tiger Leaping Gorge is not for the faint of heart. They weren't kidding. It was no easy hike, but wow, was it ever beautiful. We and our friends, Jeanna and Stephanie, hiked through this amazing part of Yunnan that we had heard so much about.
We were not left disappointed.
It's called Tiger Leaping Gorge because a tiger supposedly jumped across the river.
Stopping for water and warming up over a small fire
Resting--we did this often as we hiked uphill for hours
Stop tempting us! Of course, we would rather be on a horse. Our legs are burning, but we want to do this.
Stopping for lunch
We spent one night at the Halfway House. The way the trail is set up, there are guest houses along the trail (each a few hours apart) so depending on how far you hike, you can stop and find a place to sleep and eat. And all the beds have heated mattress pads. Thank goodness.
It was even snowing in the morning.
In the morning as we started our hike, we got stuck behind a herd of goats. Since our legs were aching, we didn't mind the slower pace.

ReplyDeleteWe'll have to compare notes -- we were there about 2 weeks before you and had an awesome time. Looks like you had a little bit colder weather.
