Stinky doufu

Last night we ventured out to the Night Market on Wangfujing street in Beijing.  Here you can find just about any meat on a stick--snake, squid, scorpion, even starfish.  The smell of fermented tofu (known by foreigners as stinky doufu) permeates the air.  I (Mallary) found it hard to breathe and quickly lost my appetite.  Check out the video to see the excitement of it all--minus the smell.

I am loving being in a big city.  There are endless things to see and do.  I am learning some basic language and how to maneuver around the city and order food.  I still have a lot to learn!

  1. I hate stinky doufu! Well, I don't think I've ever eaten it but the smell does make me feel a little sick. Food street is pretty interesting. Not necessarily appetizing, but interesting. :) I'm looking forward to hanging out with you in China! (Well, maybe Thailand first).

  2. Hey guys, glad your stuff made it ok. Looks like a nice selection of food, although I admit I might change my mind if I could smell the video. Thanks for the update, Kara and I are thinking about you guys.

  4. Stinky Tofu is gross! I had it in Taiwan. Our host ate stinky tofu soup that had congealed pigs blood in it.

  5. Congealed pigs blood? I didn't think stinky tofu could get any grosser.
